Never notified

This seems to be a pretty common story with Chase – they close someones credit card and claim that they notified them by mail, but the card holder never got a notification.

The $4 billion Chase stole from WaMu

Should Chase be worried? Even the WSJ is reporting about the former WaMu parent companies suit against Chase for $4 billion in assets it claims it owns and Chase took inappropriately. (article)

Motion denied!

Well this is good news. Chase attempted to have the class action against it for closing HELOC accounts thrown out on the grounds that it didn’t owe any responsibility to WaMu customers. The Judge denied their motion. If you are a Chase customer, this is how the company you bank with thinks: they should be allowed to do whatever they want. (article)

No deed recorded = no foreclosure and no debt

In a case that might make history, and a lot of trouble for Chase if others copy his tactics, one man might be able to stop Chase’s foreclosure of his house and wipe out his mortgage debt because Chase can’t produce the deed to his house. (story)

Chase drops manidtory arbitration

More good news: Chase has dropped mandatory arbitration from its credit card contracts. (article) The statistics for arbitration outcomes are really one-sited; about 95% of the outcomes are in favor of the credit card companies. (link) Even some cases where the consumer is obviously right. (article) So this is a very good thing.

Public utilities suing Chase for price fixing

For the record, JP Morgan Chase is among the banks sued by a California public utility over allegations of price fixing in municipal derivatives auctions. Yea, I don’t know what those are either.

Debtors Revolt

Oops! Chase went and raised the interest rate to an unconscionable 21.24% on a Ann Minch, who just happens to have fought a very public battle with Bank of America about the exact same thing (and won) and founded an organization called Debtors Revolt. Chase, perhaps you should be a little more sensitive about who not to annoy. (story)
