Chase and human error

Check out this problem submitted to the San Jose Mercury News Action Line:

Q Chase bank has lost my Social Security direct deposit of $1,189.

It does not know where the money is.

Chase recently bought the California branches from Washington Mutual, so there are probably a few bugs in the system.

A There was one, John, and it has been fixed.

I sent your e-mail to Chase and they ran it down. The incorrect account number was given to the Social Security Administration because of human error.

Chase said that your money is now in your account.

Oh, wait, false alarm, it was HUMAN ERROR!

Chase shows tech unsavvyness with browser support list

I came across a report that Chase is dropping support for newer popular browsers like Chrome and Opera because it claims they aren’t secure enough.  Really?  Then why do they continue to support Internet Explorer version 6.0 which has MANY well known security problems and is no longer supported by Microsoft?

The same reason their instant alert text messages to warn you that your bank account is running out of money comes only once a day and in the middle of the night; Chase just isn’t all that tech savvy.

Chase Auto Finance plays pass the buck

Just try to get a straight answer from Chase Auto Finance as this blogger did when a car returned from lease was not inspected for a month after it was returned from a lease, during which time it was vandalized.  The blogger was charged for the damage to the car.

Think that is wrong?  So did the blogger, so he tried to get Chase to accept responsibility for the damage, which they did, and then later said they never did.

Chase admits it can’t get things right the first time

How else would you interpret this add from today’s Wall Street Journal where Chase talks about a hot line for people to call to get a second review for their loans that were turned down the first time?

Chase went over the top with this foreclosure (be scared)

All I can say about this story is, this sounds REALLY BAD, even for Chase.

We were in the middle of a loan mod when we got the foreclosure notice stapled on our home…we called Chase they said to ignore it and we continued with the loan mod. Then a Real Estate agent told me our home WAS sold the end of July 2009. We then again called Chase and they told us that our loan mod was done and we were fine and if it was sold it would be re instated…once again we believed them. Our loan mod documents showed up via Fed ex in August 2009 and we have made our payments until April of 2010 when we were served an Eviction notice by a bank who bought it back in July of 2009!!…Now we had to hire an attorney since Chase was collecting our money and billing us and on paper the house isn’t theirs…it belongs to Federal Home Bank… so now what??? The attorney got the eviction stopped for now but Chase won’t respond to his letters…we still are living here but Chase isn’t getting anymore of our money untill I know where it is going.

It looks like Chase has graduated from petty crimes against its customers to pulling off some serious fraud.  Could a big sophisticated bank like Chase really be this inept, or are they seriously getting into simply defrauding people?

Chase (still) sucks

An oldie and a goodie from back in 2005 reminds us that Chase hasn’t changed much in the last 5 years:

I noticed that after complaining about Banknorth sending me snail mail spam on this blog, googling for “Banknorth Sucks” now puts my website at the number one spot. So after my interaction with Chase today (who I have a credit card with), let’s see how high I can rank for “Chase Sucks”.

I use my Chase Mastercard occasionally and always pay the balance off in full well before the payment due date. As I went to pay the card on-line, there was a vague “fee” for 35 dollars. I called Chase to see what it was as I never pay late. I always pay on-line, and I always have the payment come directly out of my bank account, which has more than enough funds to cover my small charges.

The woman informed me that they attempted to withdraw funds and the withdrawal fee failed. She didn’t know why. I confirmed the routing and account number with her. Both were correct.

I then asked why I was being charged if they couldn’t get the transaction to work. “Because it failed.” she said. So apparently, if they fail to get something to work, it is my fault and I don’t get a chance to fix it.

“Uh, so why didn’t you inform me before charging me a fee?”

“How would we do that?” she asked.

“You have my email address and my phone number.”

“We can’t do that.”

This went around and around while I tried to express the insanity of this system. With other fun accusations like my payment was late even though I haven’t even received this month’s statement yet, and that my previous payments were made by phone, even though I’ve never called in a payment in my life.

After all this, I said, “Look, this is ridiculous, the failed transaction is your problem, I’ve never payed via phone, your records are crap, please just waive the fee.”

“I’d be glad to waive the fee this one time for you sir.”

So apparently this woman just enjoys arguing, and I could have saved myself 15 minutes if I had just begun with, “Please waive stupid fees from my account.”. “Yes sir right away sir.”

Don’t trust anyone over 30 is now don’t trust anyone who works for Chase

This one from a Criaglist post, soon to be gone, so I am reposting it here.

Here’s a good one:
I rent a room from a friend. We both have Chase accounts.
Last thursday I deposited my unemployment check. The following friday I give my roomie a rent check and told him it was good to go. He takes it to Chase and asks the teller if the funds were available. He was told yes so he deposits my rent check.
The fucking check bounced because Chase held my unemployment check for for five fucking days! In the meantime I get hit with an insufficient funds fee!
CHASE SUCKS!

It sure doesn’t seem like you can trust what Chase employees tell you, it so often turns out to be wrong.
