After having a credit card (originally from Providian, now with WaMu) in excellent standing for many years and building up the credit limit to $12,800, I just noticed that they have closed the account. They did not warn me. The WaMu representative I spoke to said that it was closed to “limit the bank’s exposure to risk” and because it hadn’t been used in a while. She said the account “cannot be reopened”. She then explained that it’s in the fine print of the terms that the bank can lower my credit limit or cancel my card at any time. She chuckled when I pointed out that doing that hurts my credit rating and that it was simply evil. When I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to she said they would not be able to reopen my account either
