WaMu Sucks!

to the public!!

So I have a RECENT nightmare with WAMU. I usually have had great service. But this one... wow, where do I begin?


Okay so last night 09/10/09 I noticed I was over drawn by about 1,250.00
I'm NEVER over drawn.

and I have seven $33.00 over draft fees!! (What the heck?)


I look down and notice that my rent check of check# XYZ (anonymous) of around 1,500 cleared
but then another check of the SAME check # XYZ of 1,630.00 for rent in my SAME apartment complex came out of my ACCOUNT!!

Here is the thing... after clicking on both checks
I see that check#XYZ for $1,500.00 was MY check

BUT Check#XYZ of $1,635 was someone Else's check of a DIFFERENT WAMU account with a completely different account number and in fact his check number was XXX
NOT XYZ

The reason why it got pulled out of my account was because some NIMROD
scanned this guy's check #XXX of 1,635.00 on top of my check XYZ for 1,500.00
and therefor the checks were LAYERED on top of each other

His check number was slightly above my check number

so NOBODY double checked to make sure this transaction was Correct.



So, being the Telephone bank line is now open only 7am-9pm (eastern time)
and it was now 9:30pm (Pacific time)

I had to wait until 4am my time to call...

I WAS UP ALL NIGHT over this

I called the bank at 4am

and first got a customer service agent..... I asked to speak to her supervisor.

I than got the manager. The best he could do was to refund me the money in 3-4 business days.

UMM HELLO I'M over drawn
I need MONEY NOW!! (By the way its Friday so I have to wait an entire weekend-until around the following Wednesday to get all my money back)

He was not very apologetic either. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!


So, I call the bank (my branch here in Southern California)
and speak to a manager

she promptly helps me (Thank GOD!)
but also tells me.... it will be 2-3 business days
and to see if I can transfer some funds in to the account from a family member so that I no longer acquire over draft fees.

Well, of course not exactly the news I want to hear. AT LEAST she was polite and was sincere with her apology.

So, of course one of my family members sticks in over $1,000.00 for me (Gotta love family)
so that I'm okay for the weekend.

So far I should be receiving a refund of all the lost funds

around $231.00 of over draft fees and 1,600.00+ of money that was withdrawn from my account... which never should have happened....


I know mistakes can happen. But, come on this is a HUGE mistake.

I can't explain how much in distress this put me in. My whole Friday is going to be spent catching up on sleep...

I'm am completely dissatisfied how the first manager handled this situation
but, I will say the second manager did a much better job at putting me at ease.

I will give this bank ONE more chance. If they ever screw up my account again, or this matter is not completely fixed I'm closing my account and choosing a different bank!!
